The Hagen History Center in Erie is set to welcome a new addition to its collection of exhibits, the Frank Lloyd Wright Field Office Museum. This museum, opening on June 27, is an expansion of the existing Frank Lloyd Wright Field Office exhibit, which has been a major attraction since its opening in 2021. The museum is a testament to the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright and the efforts of Erie preservationist Tom Hagen, who acquired and reconstructed the San Francisco field office at the center. The museum's construction cost over $1 million and includes a 1,000-square-foot field office, along with an additional 1,700 square feet of exhibits, graphics, and interactive displays. This expansion provides an in-depth exploration of Wright's personal life, creative influences, and architectural philosophy, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience. One of the highlights of the museum is the inclusion of personal letters written by Wright, his 1950 Crosley Hotshot roadster, and reproductions of Wright-designed statues, stained glass windows, and furniture. Visitors can also engage with video and audio recordings of Wright, bringing his ideas to life. The museum encourages visitors to participate in hands-on activities, such as creating a miniature version of a Wright-inspired wisteria window, embodying Wright's philosophy of 'learning by doing'. The Frank Lloyd Wright Field Office Museum is a significant addition to the Hagen History Center, attracting tourists and international visitors alike. The center's CEO, Cal Pifer, has noted the increasing number of visitors, including couples from Montreal, Cape Cod, and Dallas, as well as Australian tour groups, all drawn to the unique experience offered by the museum. The museum's hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., with admission prices ranging from $6 for students to $8 for adults.
